Thankfulness Tree

As our Access students were learning about American Thanksgiving in November (the holiday), we discussed many things—the history of the first Thanksgiving, including the Pilgrims, the Native Americans and traditional Thanksgiving foods (yes, pumpkin pie!). As a teacher, it was important to me that our students understood the core value of the holiday. In order to practice thankfulness, we decorated an autumn tree in our classroom. We used fall-colored leaves and wrote things that we were thankful for on each leaf. It was a meaningful experience as each student taped their leaf to the tree. Here are some photos of the day:
